Help, My printer is printing gibberish!
Turn off the printer, then delete any print jobs from the print queue. To do this, go to the Start menu and click on Printers and Faxes. Your printer should be listed here. Double click on the printer name to see the print jobs. Click on each print job and cancel it. The print jobs should either disappear from the queue or have a status of "deleting". Shut down and restart the computer and turn on the printer.
Students receive errors when trying to print in the tech lab
This seems to happen when many students all try to print at the same time. Waiting will usually clear up the problem. It appears the spooler service becomes overwhelmed. Sometimes simply switching to the other printer will work. In the print dialogue box where the printer name is listed, click on the down arrow next to it and choose the other printer.
Students receive errors when trying to write to cd
Most often this is because the file they are trying to write is open in another application. The user needs to save the file to the desktop or my documents first and make sure the file is closed before trying to write to CD. Sometimes the burner doesn't work properly with a CD. Try the same process on a different PC. If the file won't write on more than one PC, it may be that the CD itself is damaged and not writeable.
Phone displays "Warning Code 9108"
This can happen to phones with power connectors (not power over Ethernet) after a phone system upgrade. Reboot the phone by unplugging and plugging in the power cord.
User cannot copy/paste from Yahoo mail message to MS Word
Students who try to copy and paste from their Yahoo mail message body to MS Word have the Word application hang. This is only an issue with the Yahoo mail web site interface. The solution is to click on "printable view" on the right corner of the mail message. This brings up a separate window with only the message text inside. Copy and paste from this window does work.
QuickTime and a TIFF (uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture
When trying to view certain
presentations (made on macs) with ppt 2003, some pictures cannot be opened and a
message appears instead: "QuickTime and
a TIFF (uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this pictures". The fix
(from PPTools website): The problem, in a nutshell, is that PowerPoint/Windows
doesn't support QuickTime compression; installing QuickTime on the PC won't
help. You'll need to go back to the Mac to fix the problem by re-inserting the
graphic into PowerPoint. Open the original graphic in the program that created
it. Choose File, Save As. Select No Compression in the save options (PowerPoint
will compress the image when it imports it) Save as jpg or png or similar format
that's compatible with both pc and mac ppt versions. Switch to PowerPoint,
choose Insert, Picture, From File and choose the newly saved picture. DO NOT
drag and drop or copy/paste the graphic into PowerPoint. That's what probably
caused the problem in the first place.
How do I display letter grades along with grade percentages?
In order to display final marks on your scores by class page, follow these steps for each gradebook:
There are two ways to do this.
Each way has its advantages and disadvantages. Which one you use is up to you.
Option 1- Displaying and Counting Subsets of Assignments (easier to setup, but can be more complicated to go back and look at the first half of the term):
Option 2 - Create a new Gradebook for the second part of the term (more work to setup, but easier to go back to first half of term – particularly if grading rules change):
What is TA Mode and what does it do?
TA Mode is Teacher Assistant Assignment Mode. When TA mode is turned on, the user specifies which gradebook(s) and range of assignment numbers the TA can access in Aeries. After submitting this information the application is then in TA mode. In TA mode, the user can access only the following options:
Change Gradebook (only the specified gradebooks can be displayed)
Scores by Class
Scores by Student
Scores by Assignment
Logout
Only the assignments that the teacher has given permission to access are visible. Overall scores are not visible. TA mode remains in effect until the user logs out of the application. When the teacher logs back in, TA mode is off and all gradebook functionality is restored.
